Mega ZX-12 Race ; new conrods (22/03/2006)

The manufacturers of the Mega ZX-12 engines, Picco Micromotori from Italy, have developed an improved conrod set for their multiple championship winning ZX-12 engines.

The current conrods, while they performed well, needed to be replaced every few hours depending on level of use. Due to the outstanding performance of the Mega ZX-12 engines racers accepted that they had to replace the conrods more often than they were used to with other brands.

Now with these new conrods the durability and life-span has been greatly improved. This new part is made of a different material than that of previous versions and the latest design sees more material around the big end, which provides more strength for this area. Another improvement is that the bronze bushing in the small end has been removed, this combined with a hollow piston pin adds up to a considerable reduction in rotating mass. This weight reduction may initially seem small until you consider that this part goes up and down 35.000 - 40.000 times a minute and you start to realise that each gram is very important!
