Reigning Greek Serpent Series Champion Mimis Papadopoulos got the defence of his title off to the perfect start by winning the opening round of the 2006 1:8th Series over the weekend at Arena.
Driving his Serpent 960/Mega combination Papadopoulos didn't have it all his own way with Kiriakos Anastasiadis and Series newcomer Vagelis Papachristos quicker but both drivers suffered glow plug failure in the final. After a quick plug change Papachristos rejoined the race, however, Papadopoulos now had a big enough advantage to cruise to victory.
Debuting his new 960, it was another Series newcomer Thomas Penka who completed the podium while early leader Anastasiadis was classified fourth.
With 14 drivers registering points in the opening round of the 7 round Series and a number of new drivers showing strong potential the Greek Serpent series looks set to be a very exciting affair.
Organised by RC Microracing, the Greek Serpent Series is supported by Serpent, Mega, Enneti, Gammalube and Modelling-news.com.
Next weekend its the turn of the 1:10th drivers as Arena place host to the opening round of the new for 2006 1:10th Serpent Series.
