The annual season opener for the Scandinavian nitro season was held in Staffanstorp in Sweden as usuall, some years we get really nice weather other years we get snow.... :) This time it was something in the middle.
The qualifications starded pretty cold (+5 celcius) but dry on the saturday morning, some practice was done then we managed to have two rounds of qualification until the rain came.
I the highly competitive 1:8 class, a lot of good drivers from Sweden, Denmark and Norway showed up. Most drivers was interested to get a lot of tracktime as this track will host the Efra A-Euros in July. TQ by 8 seconds was my club and team mate Mikael Fransson with his Serpent 960, second was danish Martin Christensen with a Mugen, 3:rd Swedish Mikael Bengtsson with a Mugen.
In the 1:10 200mm class I took TQ with my S-710/Mega car with five seconds ahead of Alexander Andersson with a Kyosho, 3:rd Klas Runesson with a Mugen. My car felt really great so I was looking forward to the finals.
In the morning the track started to dry again and the lower finals could actually run in semi dry conditions.... then it started to rain again...
In the 1:8 Track final not many cars ran, no point in destroying the new cars. Just a few drivers ran a couple of laps to try their rain tires, you newer know when you will be needing them again!
In the 1:10 200mm final more cars were running, I decided to try some rain tires, the first set was no good so I went to the pit to try another set and those worked better and I could climb through the field. After 45 minutes of exciting wet racing (not) I finished some laps down on the winner Alexander Andersson, 3rd was Thomas Nasstrom. Congratulations!!!
Well well not much to do, just to hope for better weather in the coming races....
My next race will be the Scandinavian cup in Hillerod Denmark on the 6-7:th of May.
Stay tuned boys and girls!
