Scandinavian Cup Hillerod,DK (10/05/2006)

By:
Per-Ola Kent Hard

Round 1 6-7:th of May

After the very cold and wet race in Sweden one week ago, we had the opposite in Hillerod Denmark the past weekend! The nice and challenging track in Hillerod Denmark is located on the farmland of Ole Harder(Danish Serpent distributor for many years). Two days of nice racing in exellent conditions, good weather, good track, good drivers, relaxed athmosphere!
Scoring a win did not make things worse.... :)

Race

The qualifications was very close between Frank Andersen from Antrade/Serpent Norway and myself, Frank took TQ one second ahead of me but our laptimes was very close so I expected the final to be very close. 3:rd in the qualies was fast local driver Jimmy Bigum. In the final me and Frank took the lead, I could run a longer split time before refueling at that was to my advantage.

After some time Frank had a engine stop and I could gain a 2.5 laps gap, I would need it because some time later I lost my second gear but I could still do pretty ok laptimes and after 45 minutes of racing I could score the first win of this season about 1.5 laps ahead of Frank, in third came danish driver Jesper Hoyer another lap down. I would like to thank Frank for the "fair driving" in the final.

Thanks to the Hillerod club for hosting a nice and relaxed race!

Car/Engine

Some of you might find it intesteting to know a little about my setup, here it comes... :)

My Serpent 710 with Mega engine worked very nice, I ran the car with a PF Stratus body (also tried the Mazda and Losi Alfa and laptimes were similar so the Stratus was a safe choice), GQ tires, 37 shore in qualies, 40-42 in the final.

Front diff at a medium setting, rear gear-diff with 20K Serpent oil (tried 30K but made car more unstable during acceleration), soft front swaybar, std 2mm rear swaybar, 40W oil, 3-holes, red springs. Shock position front 2nd hole, rear lower than hole 1. Lowest rollcenter (no shims under upper arm) in the front (needed in the chicanes), medium rollcenter in the rear.

A lot of caster wooked best in the fast sweeper. Mega XZ engine, with a nr6 plug (120 celsius), Mega 2607 pipe for good power and runtime, RunnerTime 16% fuel. Clutch with standard fly weights, yellow pad, 0.6mm play, hard spring (1:8) set as tight as possible without slipping. The car worked pretty nice in both slow and fast corners.
Feel free to ask if you want to know more!

Stay tuned.....

My next race will be the first Swedish nationals at my home track in Vaxjo on the 27-28 of May.
