1st Swedish Nationals (31/05/2006)

Vaxjo Sweden 27-28:th of May

This year there are three national races in Sweden, two nationals and one seperate Swedish Championships race (held in mid July). The past weekend we had the first of the two nationals at the Waxjo MS club track, a very nice track that is the home track of me and Serpent team driver Mikael Fransson. A little less drivers than expected entered the race, but competition is strong and almost all the best drivers in the both classes joined......

The Race

1:10 200mm
The race was very close as the track is quite easy to learn, in the 200mm class all the four direct qualified was within 2 second after the 5min heats. TQ was Tommy Bergfelt about 0.1 seconds ahead of Magnus Vassmar, who was about 0.9 seconds ahead of myself. As you imagine the finals will be tough.

The final starts bad for me as I get hit in the start and must go to the pit to fix the body, then the engine starts to running way to lean and I end up pit for 1.5 minutes to richen the engine (the new Mega MF is very fast when setup correctly, I can recomend trying it), well I knew that the race would be over more or less, with such a strong race you can not afford any trouble if you want to win. Well I finished 8:th as not many of the drivers had any trouble, at least I could feel happy about setting a new lap record in the final with a 15.35s laptime. For the rest I was not very happy.... but the car worked ok so no real worries!

The winner Bergfelt ran 167 laps under 45 minutes and finished 0.6 seconds ahead of Kyosho team mate Magnus Vässmar. I told you the final would be close didn't I..... :)

1:8 Track
In the 1:8TR class preparing for the EFRA A-Euros in Sweden in July Serpent ace Mikael Fransson has some problems with fuel consumption in the first heats, that was solved using another pipe and "Micke" could take TQ by 4-5 seconds ahead of Niklas Johansson and Mattias Ericsson racing Mugen. "Micke" made a new lap record of 13.75s in the qualies.

In the final noone could stop Mikael at his hometrack and he won with a 3 laps margin ahead of Matias Ericsson and in 3:rd Magnus Bengtsson.

Summary

I would like to thank the volounteers of my club Waxjo MS for hosting a nice and friendly race!
I do hope all the drivers had a nice time and will be back again next year in Vaxjo.

Congratulations to all winners!

Next race for the 1:8TR drivers will be the EC-warmup in Stafffanstorp Sweden mid June, a race that will se a lot of top drivers; Salven, Green, Vrieljnick, Fransson, Pietch and the Italians for example all testing for the coming Euros in July!!!

The next race for me and many others will be the Nordic Championships in Norway first weekend of July.

Untill then...... as allways....
