In the third round of the Austrian 1/10th National Championships, held over the weekend at Aspern near Vienna, Team driver Gerhard Kandlhart once again steered his 710 to victory. The winner of the previous round at Nußdorfring, a very wet encounter, the former European 235mm Champion was again the pace setter at Aspern where competitors were greeted by 30°C plus temperatures.
Starting the 30 minute final from pole, Kandlhart completed 91 laps to win by a margin of 7 seconds from Hubert Hönigl. Also in the final for Team Serpent was Daniel Tomaschko who had qualified P2 and looked set to give Serpent a 1-2 result until he experienced engine problems. He eventually finished fifth.
Also competing in the 1/8th class Kandlhart looked good to repeat his round two victory qualifying his 960 in P2. Unfortunately 7 minutes into the final he encountered a problems and was forced to retire.
The next round of the Austrian Championship moves to Mistelbach on July 29/30.
