Today all the higher finals were running, from 1/32 and upwards and saw some really nice racing in sunny and very hot conditions.
In the first semi Michael Salven was just 2 seconds behind the leader Adrien Bertin at the end of the race and looking safe into the final when he took some air in the chicane and when he landed the rear tire came off by some reason, very unlucky and he could not make the final. In the second semi Swedish Mikael Fransson got engine problems just after some time and he retired some minutes later, no luck. Also Serpent drivers Mark Green and Steven Cuypers ran into different problems in their semi´s.
Into the final to join the four direct qualified (Ielasi, Collari, Van Gastel and Vrieljnik) went, Walter Salemi, Alberto Picco, Fabio Domanin, Adrien Bertin, Stefan Hanaur and Robin D´hondt. So two Serpents in the final and three Mugen and five 5 Kyosho.
The final started in a fast pase with Ielasi followed by Collari, Van Gastel, Picco and Domanin. Then things started to happen, first Ielasi went to the pit for re-setting his engine, Collari now had the lead just ahead of fast pushing Van Gastel and Picco and then Domanin. Then Van Gastel got a engine stop, later on followed by stops from both Collari and Picco.
So after about 15 minutes of racing Fabio Donamin was in the lead followed by Salemi and D´hondt.
25 minutes, after all the tires changes is Fabio still in the lead one lap ahead of Ielasi and Bertin and Vrieljnik.
35 minutes, Fabio has a lap down on Ielasi still followed by Bertin and now Collari is back in a top position. Ielasi loosing a wheel and retire.
After 45 minutes of very very exciting racing it is Fabio Domanin from Italy with a Serpent 960 and a Max Power engine who wins!!!. 2:nd was Adrien Bertin with a Kyosho/Sirio one lap down, 3:rd Lamberto Collari with a Kyosho/Collari combo.
Congratulations to Fabio Domanin and Serpent Motorsport for becoming European Champions 1:8TR in Staffantorp Sweden 2006!!!
