Down Under - Saturday Day 3 (09/09/2006)

Difference in rules

The third day of racing at the IFMAR Worlds started with a big surprise for some racers. Following IFMAR rules the wing of the body shell must not exceed 10 mm of the boot lid of the car. This is different from the EFRA rules which say that the wing can exceed 10 mm of the bumper of the car.

This difference in rules has been detected by some European racers while wanting to get through the technical inspection this morning. As you can imagine it caused lots of hectically modifications on body shells and spontaneous stress in the pit area. The frustration even grew when realizing that most of the set-ups and insights from the last two days were (partly) useless because of the modifications on the body shell.

Racing, racing and lots of racing..

For the rest there has been lots of racing the whole day. All racers had 5 runs of controlled practice and again we have seen a consistently fast and smooth driving Chris Tosolini in all runs.

Next to him also Keisuke Fukuda and Mike Swauger showed a constantly fast performance during the whole day. All in all the track got a little bit slower compared to yesterday with the fastest lap being driven by Chris Tosolini in the morning (17.3 sec.).

Team Serpent - how are we doing?

Today we saw Scotty Gray and Mark Green steadily improving their speed and showing strong performances during the whole day. Both drivers seem to have found a good set-up and good handling of their cars. Next to them Japanese racer Toshiyuki Iwamoto impressed by showing up only yesterday and running low 17 sec. laps in the final run. Way to go!

The other Serpent drivers mostly were still searching for a good solution in getting enough steering without having traction roll. This evening there has been a team meeting with all team Serpent drivers to discuss the best solution to this problem and exchange all experiences with different set-ups.

Josh Cyrul – no final decision yet

We promised to keep you informed regarding the protest on the engines of Josh Cyrul. Until now no official decision has been taken. This only can be done until the race officially started and one of the team managers submits an official protest. The race direction will discuss the issue then and will make a final decision. So this story has to be continued…
