Good news! Day 6 of the IFAMR 1:10 scale Worlds started with sunshine and heavy wind. You can not imagine how happy we have been seeing the sunny sky this morning. As the event has been opened with the official opening ceremony yesterday, we will see some exciting qualifications during the whole day.
As usual at IFMAR World Championships all heats have been divided into two groups (group A and B) which will race in the morning or afternoon. Group A (heat 1 to 7) has started qualifications now. Group B (heat 8 to 15) will race this afternoon.
This morning we have spoken to Scotty Gray our shooting star from the US. Let's see what he has told us:
Interviewer: How are you doing today?
Scotty: Good so far! I will be racing this afternoon. I am very excited because this is my first major World Championship.
Interviewer: How is racing until now?
Scotty: It has been good. The car has been really good. The set up has been hard to find because the track changes so much. And the rain did not help much
made it hard.
Interviewer: How do you like the track?
Scotty: The track is really nice. Its the best track I have ever raced on. It is the first track I have raced on outside of the US. The only thing that makes it hard driving is the off camber in the corners. The facility is really nice.
Interviewer: Who is your biggest competitor?
Scotty: Myself.
Interviewer: Who is going to win these Worlds?
Scotty: Hopefully a Serpent.
Interviewer: What are you going to eat tonight?
Scotty: I never decide, I need to check with the boss :-).
Next person in the 'Snake Pits' has been Mark Green.
Interviewer: How are you doing today?
Mark: I am freezing. The weather has been not what I have expected. I expected lots of sunshine and beautiful women
they are not what I have expected ;-) except the one at the Coffee bar.
Interviewer: How is racing until now?
Mark: Racing is going good. I have a good feeling with the car. The engine has been very fast and reliable. I am still looking to find the optimum car handling.
Interviewer: How do you like the track?
Mark: The track is amazing. The club has the best facilities and deserves to hold the World Championship.
Interviewer: Who is your biggest competitor?
Mark: Everyone who is racing.
Interviewer: Who is going to win these Worlds?
Mark: Me I hope!
Interviewer: What are you going to eat tonight?
Mark: Tonight we hope to find a very good Steak House. We got a tip from Alain Levy so we will try this restaurant tonight.
During lunch time there was a big thunderstorm with lots of rain and wind on the track. Because of this thunderstorm we got problems with the internet (something went wrong with an antenna).
So we had no internet access during the whole afternoon and evening and were not able to publish any news until now. Sorry for that, but if you look at the picture next to the text maybe you can imagine the impact of the thunderstorm.
This is the first World Championship with new fuel regulations. Maybe you already heard about it but if not, here are the changes in a short overview:
1. Everybody has to use the same fuel which is RunnerTime at these Worlds.
2. Everybody needs his/her own fuel bottle and fuel gun which has to be left at the race organization during the whole event.
3. Before each heat you receive the fuel, fuel bottle and fuel gun from the race organization. You need to enter the pits without fuel in the tank.
All two qualifications rounds have been run by now, even in the darkness with flood light on. All in all the track has been really fast with good traction.
The three fastest racers were:
1. Takaaki Shimo 34 laps 10:09.26 min.
2. Chris Tosolini 34 laps 10:10.13 min.
3. Hideo Kitazawa 34 laps 10:15.04 min.
Please check out the website of the event (http://200mmifmarworlds.no-ip.org/worldsresults/final_index.html) for all results.
Best Serpent racer today has been Jilles Groskamp qualifying in the 9th position by driving 33 laps in 10:04.06 minutes. Notice that this 9th position also made him the fastest European racer at the Worlds by now!
Next fastest Serpent racer has been Japanese driver Toshiyuki Iwamoto (33 laps in 10:08.44 min). He ended up in 12th position. All other Serpent racers have had problems within their runs and hope for good weather and less problems tomorrow. Off course, we will keep you informed on that!
