The Danish Championship travelled to the city of Naesved to a track that is very fast. Although not too technical it is still hard to go very very fast on and therefore local driver knowledge is a big advantage. Competitors were greeted by good weather that would remain all weekend.
Friday was training and this gave me time to get to grips with my all new Serpent 720 and new Mega ZX12 DSII engine. After some running I made a new set-up changing the shock oil to 40W along with making the rear anti-roll bar 2mm harder. With some other basic set-up changes the car was now like a dream to drive - SO easy and still fast.
In the qualification I set the third fastest run just 2 seconds behind second placed Jimmy Bigum/Kyosho and 8 seconds adrift of TQ driver Martin Christensen/Mugen. Both drivers having the advantage of local track knowledge.
Qualifying (Top 3)
1. Martin Christensen - Mugen
2. Jimmy Bigum - Kyosho
3. Martin Lissau - Serpent 720
In the Semis, Serpent driver Mads Merrlid was enjoying a big lead and looked set to make the main final when at 17 minutes his battery went dead. Very bad luck for him.
The finale training went great and I was confident for the final. The car was perfect and engine was good, no problems at all.
I started the main final from third on the grid and for the first 5min I was just .5 sec behind Jimmy Bigum. On his home track Martin Christensen was flying at the head of the field. 2 laps before the first pit stop I took second after a clean overtaking move on Bigum. Bigum was to later hit engine problems. After the third pitstop I was to hit my own problems when a screw fell out of a ball joint ending my race at the 15 minute mark. Very disappointing.
Final Result (Top 3)
1. Martin Christensen
2. Claus Ryeskov
3. Bent Poulsen
I was very happy with my overall performance over the weekend and with my new 720 and the Mega ZX12 DSII. I would like to thank Serpent for all their help with the new car and Martin Christensen for helping with the engine. Thanks also to Mads Merrild (Serpent driver from Denmark).
