VAN ECHELPOEL IS BELGIAN SERIES CHAMPION (19/09/2006)

Bart Van Echelpoel is the 2006 Belgium 1:10 235mm Serpent Series Champion. The Wijnegem driver claimed the title with his fourth straight win in the penultimate round of the Series at Rumst over the weekend.

Securing pole for the main final Van Echelpoel didn't have it all his own way in the 30 minute final. Willy Wuyts and Luc Steylaerts both put pressure on the Series' only race winner with the trio swaping the lead several times.

Despite the best efforts of Wuyts and Steylaerts, Van Echelpoel eventually came out on top once again to win both the race and the 2006 Belgian Serpent Series title.

With one race still to run, at Roeselare on October 1, attention now focuses on the battle for Vice-Champion. Thanks to the quality of 235mm racing in Belgium this year there is growing interest in the new 235mm based Serpent Porsche Cup which will be introduced in 2007.
