John Sotiropoulos driving a Serpent 960FD powered by a Mega ZX21 is the 2006 ELME Greek 1:8 National Champion. The win is the 5th Greek 1:8 title success for Serpent with Giannis Orfanos (95-96) and Marios Stergiou (97-98) having secured the crown for the specialist Dutch competition RC car manufacturer.
The final round, which took place over the weekend at the Arena circuit, produced some heart stopping moments for the champion elect. During the warm-up for the main final Sotiropoulos encountered problems which saw him start the all important title deciding race one minute late.
With his main rival also encountering problems the RC Microracing driver worked his way back to fourth position enough to give him the winning margin in the standings over Kyosho driver John Arkoumanis. Backing up the strength of the Serpent 960/Mega package Vaggelis Papachristos took third overall in the championship standings.
The race also marked the final round of the Greek Serpent Series with Mimis Papadopoulos winning the title from Vagelis Papachristos. Papadopoulos topped off his successful season by also taking victory in the Greek National B Championship.
Serpent's excellent results in Greece are a credit to the hard work of our distributor RC Microracing
and the support of team manager Giannis Orfanos.
