Current Greek 1:8 Champion John Sotiropoulos got his title defence off to the perfect start over the weekend when he dominated the opening round of the 2007 National Championship at the Arena Racing circuit.

The Team Serpent Greece driver used his 960 perfectly to TQ for the event in a new track record time of 19 laps in 05:05.710.

In the final Sotiropoulos was having a good battle with Kyosho driver Totomis but an error during his first pit stop saw the Serpent driver drop a full lap.  Rejoining the race the defending Champion chased down leader Totomis and with 2 minutes of the 30 minute final remaining retook the lead.  Going on to win the race and collect maximum championship points his stunning recovery drive also saw him set a new record time for a final at the Arena track with a time of 108 laps in 30:09.053.

Backing up Sotiropoulos's fine performance, Mimis Papadopoulos made it two Serpent 960s on the podium with his Mega DSII+ powered example.

There was also success for Serpent in the B final with Antonis Paliginis and Andreas Gianakakis both finishing on the podium.
