The 2008 1:8 Onroad British National Championships kicked off over the Easter weekend at the very fast Brookland Circuit in Kent where defending champions Team Serpent took top honours in the cold conditions.

Saturday's practice saw drivers faced with a mixture of rain, hail and sunshine.  On race day most drivers had the opportunity to test on a dry track but they had to contend with very cold air temperatures of only 2C.  An example of how cold it was is that just before the start of Heat 1 it started to snow!

Defending champion Mark Green with his MEGA ZX powered 960'08 took FTD after 3 round of wet qualifying with team-mate Neil Diver second fastest.

The A final saw the lead held by 4 different drivers during the 30-minute encounter with the Neil Diver holding it when it counted most to take his Serpent to victory by 10 seconds from Chris Heath.

Serpent also enjoyed success in the B Final as Tim Wood took top honours over fellow 960 racer Scott Nettleton.

Round 2 of the British Championship takes competitors to the fast flowing Halifax circuit on 27-26 April where drivers and officials will be hoping for slightly warmer conditions.
