Rising Team Serpent talent Oscar Cabezas got his Spanish National Championship campaign on track over the weekend when he claimed his first podium finish of his 2008 campaign at Valencia.

After the disappointment of the opening race held at the new Cadiz track where he set a new track record and led the final before suffering a gear failure, the reigning champion travelled to round two looking to get decent points on the board for his title defence but the weekend was to get off to a horrible start.

Half way through Friday testing, Oscar's car suffered radio interference causing it to crash out on full throttle practically destroying his '08 chassis.  This meant the remainder of the day was spent building a new car which was not finished till that evening meaning no chance to test the car.

On Saturday Oscar was immediately on the pace and extremely happy with the newly built car however fuel was now the big issue as he could only run 4 minutes 30 seconds in the heats. Despite needing to stop for fuel after 3 minutes Oscar still managed to set the 5th fastest time just 3 seconds off the TQ run time with a lap time that saw him break yet another track record.

Winning his Semi Final without any problems the SDD team member would line up 5th on the grid for the Main Final.  A great start saw him work his way into the lead but at 41 minutes while holding more than a one lap advantage his car suddenly stopped as the radio interference suffered on Friday reappeared.

In his pit box for over a minute and a half as they tried to find the problem he rejoined in third position 15 seconds in arrears of Italian driver Marco Vanni.  Closing the gap over the final 3 minutes of the race seemed impossible but shear determination saw the young Spaniard pass Vanni on the last lap to finish second.

For the second race in succession Oscar has proven both he and the Serpent 960 '08 are the fastest combination leading the final on both occassions and setting new track records but luck has been against him.

Round 2 of the Spanish Nationals saw a total of three Serpent's make the ultra competitive A Final with Oscar joined by Vicente Eres and Javier Hidalgo who finish 6th and 8th respectively.

Oscar is looking forward already to the third round of the championship where hopefully he can enjoy a trouble free run.
