German Team Serpent driver Markus Mobers reports on the final of the West German Championship -

Last weekend the last qualifier for the 1:10 Nitro Nationals took place at the all new Düren track. The RMC Düren had built a brand new track, which was a challenge for everybody. The new layout is fantastic and has fast passages as well as technical parts.

In qualifying team Serpent dominated big time. I secured the TQ, closely followed by Frederik Südhoff, Federico Veronesi 4 seconds back and young gun Tobias Hepp another 2 seconds down. It was funny to see all four of us pitting on the same table and taking all direct places for the final. The mix of youth and experience together with good teamwork made the difference.

Going into the final myself and Südhoff had a great start and pulled away from the pack. At the 5 minute mark right before refueling I broke first gear, so my chances of winning came to an end. Simply bad luck for me. Südhoff was leading easily now. At 20 minutes Tobias Hepp and Sebastian Bürge were catching up and Südhoff came under pressure. Bürge than flamed out ending his hopes of victory. Hepp got closer and closer and followed Südhoff right on his tail. On the last lap he decided to make a move, but he spun Südhoff around. In great sportsmanship Hepp let Südhoff back by him and that is how they finished. Great racing from both drivers.

In summary I took the West German title and together with Südhoff, Veronesi and Hepp, there will be good chances at the upcoming Nationals at the Hamm track.

Our Serpent 720’08 cars worked really well thru the season and we would like to thank Serpent, Mega, Xceed and 2-speed for their great support.

Keep the revs up!

Markus Mobers
