The 200mm British Nationals were held on the 23rd/24th July at the Mendip circuit for round five of the championship.
Saturdays practice started with dry and sunny weather but unfortunately there was little grip on the track. With many cars circulating throughout the day the traction eventually increased to a respectable level. At the end of practice it was Joe Kerry who was quickest with his Serpent 733 just ahead of Championship leader Adam Catchpole.
In Qualifying the top drivers were all struggling to make the five minute run time. After working on a few things in the earlier heats, Joe Kerry finally managed to make the five minutes in the very last qualifier and take second place on the grid for the final. Simon Wood took FTD just 0.3 seconds ahead of Joe with Johnathon Dobney’s Serpent 733 in 3rd a few seconds behind.
In the final the top two of Simon and Joe got away from the rest of the field and opened up a decent lead. At the first set of fuel stops Joe took first place and from then on was never troubled as he raced to the finish. At the end of the final Joe won three laps clear of 2nd placed Johnathon with John Zottl taking 3rd. Joe was in control of the final all the way and was around 3 tenths quicker than any of his rivals.

Joe was also the only driver all weekend to get under a 17 second lap time with a 16.92.
With this result Joe has significantly closed the gap to first place in the championship and now has a really good chance of winning the title this year.
Next up in the championship is a trip to the Stonehaven venue in Scotland

Till next time,
Joe Kerry
