British National Championship at the Stonehaven circuit (07/05/2012)

The second round of the 2012 British National Championship was held at the Superb Stonehaven circuit, in Aberdeen, Scotland. Although it was very cold, the weather was mainly dry throughout the weekend.
In Saturdays practice it was Mark Green with his Serpent 747 who was fastest, setting a new lap record of 15.1 seconds.
After Qualifying it was new Capricorn signing Adam Catchpole who finished top with Mark in 2nd

After some problems during qualifying, reigning champion Joe Kerry with Serpent 733-TE would be starting the final from 8th.
As the final started there was a crash at the first corner involving many cars. Alex Thurston managed to find a way through this and raced into the lead. Irish Champion Chris Steele was up into second with Mark Green 3rd. After some bad luck with a back marker, Mark dropped down the order. At the halfway point, Joe Kerry was fighting with Chris Steele for 2nd place, and thanks to a quick fuel stop came out just in front. With around 10 minutes to go, it started raining which made it very difficult for all drivers. During the final few minutes Joe had caught up to Alex and they were side by side for the lead. Unfortunately, Joe had to come in for fuel, ending his chances for the win. At the finish it was Alex Thurston who took his first ever national win, just 2 seconds ahead Joe Kerry, with Mark Green 3rd.

The results mean that the Serpent’s of Mark and Joe are now 1st and 2nd in the championship, with just one point between them.
