With the VETEQ, Serpent has pushed the limits in 1/8 scale on-road racing car design. After the highly successful introduction in 2001, VETEQ 02 is now even more ready to conquer the world's racing tracks with superior handling and performance.
As to be expected of this elite racing machine, the 2002 version is the logical next step in the evolution. With the VETEQ 02 Serpent emphasizes its determination and dedication for perfection and performance.
As to be expected of this elite racing chassis, continuous development has resulted in the next evolution: VETEQ 02. The development team, headed by Michael Salven, was determined to take the car to the next level by addressing all possible areas of improvement. VETEQ 02 is ready to storm the world's racing tracks and to take on the competition. By focussing all efforts on track-side development by our team drivers, the true potential of this innovative design will soon become visible. The race has only just begun...
The 02 version has returned to the 1-piece chassis design to eliminated any alignment issues known from the 2-piece chassis. More rigid and easier to work on. As a consequence the engine has been lifted 4.5mm, a compromise between low c.o.g. and chassis stiffness and ridgidiness. Several parts have been changed as a result of the 1-piece chassis: both side plates, left bearing block and left chassis connector.
With the new sideplates, changing the engine is a lot easier. Combine that with a new roll bar, making access to the engine easier, and you'll definitely notice the improved accessibility. The new roll bar also gives better access to the fuel tank. The belt tensioner has moved forward to the middle of the sideplate, resulting in improved efficiency of the drive train.
Together with the 1-piece chassis the left bearing block and chassis connector have been modified to enable effortless mounting of the complete rear suspension assembly to the 1-piece chassis.
With the use of the new 1-piece chassis the engine mounting system is now back to the conventional engine mounts. These mounts are interchangeable between VETEQ 02 and Vector NT.
Taking the engine out and putting it back in is easily done by using the 4 M3 screws that mount the engine to the blocks, leaving the 2 blocks positioned on the chassis.
To eliminate vibrations due to the rigid chassis design, the steering servo is now mounted in a rubber sleeve that nicely fits the modified steering-servo mount. The steering-servo mount has been re-engineered to create more room around the steering servo to eliminate all areas where the servo can touch the mount. The new steering servo mount uses the new, narrower mounting blocks.
The steering system has been refined to achieve smoother and more precise operation. Both the servo saver and steering lever are now ballraced, reducing friction and slip-stick effect. Extreme precision assured. The double lever steering system has been maintained for the benefit of the adjustable 'Ackermann' (difference between steering angle of inner and outer wheel). By using shorter and longer steering connectors, you can adjust the Ackermann angle to you'r liking. Something unique to VETEQ and not possible with single lever systems!
A brand new fuel tank is part of the Veteq 02. This fuel tank was tested at the World Championships in Sydney and proved to be a significant improvement in carburation reliability, under all circumstances. Reason for the development team to put it on their wish-list for 2002 and here you have it. The bottom half of the tank is redesigned and narrowed down to provide fuel to the fuel pick-up filter faster and better. Even the very last cc's of fuel will be absorbed through the use of 2 unique fuel chambers which are located on both sides of the fuel filter. The new fuel tank comes with the new AFL-cap. This Anti Fuel Lock design features a special built-in labyrinth chamber which keeps the fuel away from the pressure-line inlet, and eliminates the momentary 'hick-ups' the first 2-3 laps after refueling.
Besides all these important improvements the Veteq 02 features many 'invisible' yet significant changes. All improvents on the level of material properties, design changes and tolerances that have been introduced in the cause of 2001 are now incorporated in the 2002 version, leaving you with absolutely nothing to be desired.
