Serpent ( Michael Salven ) designed a new super-light ( SL) gearbox for the Serpent 1/8 966 .
The current Serpent gearbox system has been in use for a very long time, and the Serpent design has become the industry standard, with small revisions only.
Stronger engines, research, racing and new insights fueled the new gearbox design. Goals were to reduce inertia, fluent power transfer and increase reliability even further .
new aluminum bell, stiffer, thicker to stand forces of shoes better, bearing in center to create even forces on the bearing, special grade aluminium material to offer best “grip” for the 2-speed shoes. -
new aluminum flange which seats the German made one-way bearing, lighter and the bearing is seated more in the inside of the flange for better balance

The SL8 gearbox is in intensive use since the WC 2011 in USA, small improvements were made, and its now ready for release
Needs V2 type rear 2-speed shaft brackets to be mounted correctly. These are standard in 966 and evo for longer time already. Same clutch and pinions-gears may be used.
