Hi fellow racers,
The european racing season kicked off this weekend with the French GP in Beaumont.
The Beaumont-track is a narrow track with rather low grip conditions.
We arrived on fridaymorning and because the track was still drying out, we decided to take this as an opportunity to run in some engines (MEGA ZX-21 DSII). These further developped and improved engines performed very good, good bottom power and good end speed.
Carwise it was a difficult weekend for me. The problem was that it was, as I told earlier, a very low grip track, so you had a critical balance between rear traction...

The British 1:8th Serpent Series kicked off at the weekend in Mendip and it was John Carr from Sheffield who took max points. A leading contender in the 2005 Series, in which he finshed 3rd overall, John took the win ahead of Series newcomer Chris Simmons from London with Scott Nettleton from Crowthorne completing the podium.
Attracting 19 drivers, the first round the 2006 Serpent Series GB has set the stage for what looks set to be an exciting competition.
Organised by Eliute RC, Round 2 of the 6 Round 1:8th Serpent Series moves to Wombell on May 7th.

The 2006 season started at the magnificent Mendip circuit near Weston-Super-Mere. The track and site looked in good condition thanks to the hard working members.
The entry was very good with 63 drivers booked in to race, most of them were there practicing on Saturday. The track was damp in the morning but dried out by 11.00, unfortunately the rains came in the afternoon and most drivers spent the rest of the day talking about set-ups. Help was on hand from the Elite RC Racing Team for all Serpent drivers. No more practice took place on Saturday.

RC Microracing's John Sotiropoulos put in what can only be described as a dominant performance over the weekend during the opening round of the Greek 1:8th National Championships at Arena.
Driving his Serpent 960 powered by the new Mega DS II, the Athen's driver converted his TQ into a superb victory finishing 2 laps ahead of second place at the end of the 30 minute final.
In addition to Sotiropoulos' great win, Serpent 960s also made up an impressive 50% of the 'A' final field. In fact of the 29 competitors entered in the event 15 were using Serpent.

Reigning Greek Serpent Series Champion Mimis Papadopoulos got the defence of his title off to the perfect start by winning the opening round of the 2006 1:8th Series over the weekend at Arena.
Driving his Serpent 960/Mega combination Papadopoulos didn't have it all his own way with Kiriakos Anastasiadis and Series newcomer Vagelis Papachristos quicker but both drivers suffered glow plug failure in the final. After a quick plug change Papachristos rejoined the race, however, Papadopoulos now had a big enough advantage to cruise to victory.
Debuting his new 960, it was another Series...

Serpent's Slovenian distributor Top Modeltehnik received a very positive reaction from drivers to its recent pre-season test day held at the Tolmin circuit.
Held in fantastic weather the event was attended by 15 racers, including a number from Italy, and gave them the opportunity to get back into the rhythm of driving following the winter lay off and work on perfecting both car and engine set-up.

I arrive at the track with my pitman on thursday. There was already some people going around the track.
The track was tight with a fullthrottle righthand corner onto the straight, with a hair pin at the end which was very hard to stop the car at.The grip was low but ok to do some testing with the 960.
My car was very easy to drive so made learning the track easy. The main handling i was looking for was more steering.I changed my set up to Michael's set up which had the highest rear roll centre, this gave a lot more steering but the rear was more loose so as grip was low i put on 3.5 toe in,now...
