Drying the track

Down Under - Monday Day 5 (10/09/2006)

By:
Michael Salven

This morning we woke up from the rain rattling on the windows so we decided to stay two more minutes in bed (probably sounds familiar to you..) and head off to the track a little bit later. After arriving at the track it stopped raining so the race organisation started drying the track with leaf blowers. We hope this helps and there will be some racing today.

In the meantime...again some other interesting stuff from the 'Snake Pit' here in Brisbane.

Down Under - Sunday Day 4 (10/09/2006)

By:
Michael Salven

As already predicted by the weather forecast the fourth day of the Worlds started with short showers earlier in the morning. During the morning the track dried up and some groups were able to run a practice session. Unluckily this came to a sudden end when new showers started some minutes ago.

As ususal in life, bad news for some people (the racers) is good news for others. The local people here in Brisbane are very happy with the rain as it has not been raining for four months now. So you could say that mother nature is 'screaming' for water as also the fire risk has risen the last days....

Down Under - Saturday Day 3 (09/09/2006)

By:
Michael Salven

The third day of racing at the IFMAR Worlds started with a big surprise for some racers. Following IFMAR rules the wing of the body shell must not exceed 10 mm of the boot lid of the car. This is different from the EFRA rules which say that the wing can exceed 10 mm of the bumper of the car.

This difference in rules has been detected by some European racers while wanting to get through the technical inspection this morning. As you can imagine it caused lots of hectically modifications on body shells and spontaneous stress in the pit area. The frustration even grew when realizing that most...

Down Under - Thursday Day 1 (07/09/2006)

At 9 o'clock local time the IFMAR 1:10th 200mm On-Road World Championship finally got started. With perfect weather conditions (clear blue sky and approximately 20ºC) there has been a lot of racing today. While the track has been very dusty and slippery at the beginning, conditions got better during the afternoon. At the end of the day the grip was even so high that the cars started rolling over.

All racers had 5 runs of controlled practise today which gave them some time to get used to the track and make the first modifications of their set-up. According to Michael Salven lots of training...
